Wandering WY: Gateway to Adventure

Updated: Oct 24, 2020

I have kept you in suspense for months!!! Between school, work, and my second blog unfortunately some things got lost along the way. Before the New Year comes our way I’m going to finish telling you about my adventure in Canada this summer. The balancing act will continue in 2019 and I will be opening several new chapters in my life.

If you enjoy the unexpected twists and turns of life this is the place to be!

Day 4- Our motto for this trip should have been, “Go big or go home!” My best friend Lynn had never ridden a horse before so I decided to show her how we do it Bear Paw style. Luckily my Dad was getting ready to pack a drop camp into Slough Creek in Yellowstone National Park. He offered to have us ride along! Armed with lunches, plenty of water, bug spray, and sunscreen we woke up early that morning to drive the hour or so from Bear Paw Base to the trailhead.

Once there, we met up with our drop camp clients, weighed our loads for the mules, and packed them for the long ride in. Off fishing, they disappeared down the trail…now for the fun part! We spent the day riding through some of the most beautiful country on the planet!!! Stopping on the road we greeted the wagon coming down from the Silver Tip Ranch located a little ways past where we were riding that day.

Lynn really enjoyed her first ride…except…she was just a wee bit sore after! Warning to the wise: If you’ve never ridden before, riding will stretch muscles you didn’t know you had before especially in your back and legs. I would recommend, if you have the time, to take a few shorter rides and warm up to the movement of riding before taking a more adventurous day ride like this one. If you don’t have the time, don’t miss out on the day ride because of anticipated sore muscles! The views and memories will always be worth it!
