Summer Days at Grandma's House

Updated: Nov 8, 2020

This is a poem dedicated to my loving Grandparents who spoiled us 5 grandkids by allowing us to work for them leading horseback rides and playing in the great outdoors all summer, every summer of our childhood! Also, to my siblings and cousins without whom, the adventures simply wouldn’t be the same 😊

Fried chicken, dinner rolls, chokecherry jam!

Running through the orchard by the creek where we swam.

Hot summer days, cool summer nights,

Sleeping ‘neath the stars in the bright moonlight.

These were the days spent at Grandma’s house.

Sitting ’round the fire, working troubles out.

Dreaming of the day we’d all move away…

Funny how things change, looking back…

We’d wish we could stay!

Tutti Frutti ice cream, sweet apple pie!

Parading through the streets of town; Fourth of July!

School getting closer, days getting shorter.

Floating down the river with music on the water.

These were the days spent at Grandma’s house!

Sitting ’round the fire, working troubles out.

Dreaming of the day we’d all move away…

Funny how things change, looking back…

We’d wish we could stay!

Mountains looking taller, we’re getting older!

Building forts in the pines.

Oh, I remember those golden summers!

Each precious memory carries me

through the storms of life.

Lemons makin’ lemonade, sweet iced tea!

Driving back to childhood, country melody.
